Moderate Hike: Overview

A moderate hike builds upon the foundation of an easy hike, offering a greater physical challenge and a deeper immersion into the trail environment. While the supportive group atmosphere remains, you should anticipate encountering natural obstacles, a longer time commitment, and more significant elevation gain.

Schedule & Logistics:

  • Scheduling: Hikes take place on the weekend of your choice (Saturday or Sunday), weather permitting. In cases of severe or unsafe weather, hikes may be rescheduled, or refunds can be issued.

  • Start Time: All hikes begin promptly at 9:00 AM. Please arrive on time at the trailhead ready to start, as we will depart as a group.

  • Meeting Point: The group meets directly at the specified trailhead for the chosen route. Location and directions are provided upon registration.

  • Seasonality: Offered year-round, in all seasons. Trail conditions will vary dramatically (e.g., heat, ice, mud, fall foliage, rain, snow). Dressing appropriately for the forecast and trail conditions is essential for safety and enjoyment.

What to Expect:

  • Group Dynamic: A friendly, communal setting focused on shared accomplishment, though the pace may naturally spread the group out on challenging sections.

  • Challenge Level: Increased physical effort. Trails will include varied terrain such as roots, rocks, sustained steeper sections, and switchbacks.

  • Duration & Distance: Typically 3 to 6 hours covering approximately 2 to 6 miles, depending on the specific trail, conditions, and group pace. (Also note the shorter the trail, the more likely there will be more difficult sections i.e significant elevation gain)

  • Elevation: Noticeable and sustained climbs may be a core part of the experience depending on selected trail.

Preparation & What to Bring:

  • Food & Hydration: Due to the longer duration, we suggest you to bring trail snacks and a packed lunch. We will take an extended break to rest and refuel. Ample water is crucial.

  • Essential Gear: Sturdy, broken-in hiking shoes/boots with good traction are recommended. Weather-appropriate clothing layers (moisture-wicking, insulating, and waterproof shells)

Important Participant Notes:

  1. Personal Responsibility: Participants acknowledge that they are responsible for their own safety, preparedness, and well-being on the hike. TTC is not liable for any injuries or accidents that occur during group hikes.

  2. Group Setting Awareness: Please understand that hikes take place in public spaces with a group. Complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in this shared, open environment.

By joining this moderate hike, you confirm your understanding of the schedule, start time, seasonal requirements, and the points outlined above, and your readiness for the challenge.
